I know it runs coolant through and has an electrical sensor connector and every year or two the seal, as pointed out, cracks and sprays coolant everywhere (this is my backup warranty replacement). There's a threaded brass nipple on top which looks sealed in and nothing connects to.
Edit: ok I'm an idiot. crazedclay mentioned the bleeder valve. I never messed with it since it looked sealed. The air in the system that wasn't bled out is what's blowing the seal. *facepalm*

Does it distribute coolant through the head ?
I'd imagine the sensor is for temperate or something. Is it a valve that shuts off coolant to the smaller hose outlets?
